:: The Magic Button

Ever since mom and dad came to visit we’ve had continuous strange occurrences happen at our place. Every morning when we woke up we’d go the the bathroom, have a shower and would get ready. When we came back into our room our bed was tidied up and even Tash’s childhood bear (Bluebeary) was placed neatly on the bed (When usually he’s buried under a pile of clothes or a heap of pillows). I said to Tash, “This is AMAZING! Mom must’ve found the magic button on our bed that makes it tidy itself up.” Every morning for 2 weeks after we get up and go about our morning routine, we’d come back to the bedroom and it was spick and span! But wait… the Magic Button’s powers didn’t end there! When we snacked on some food and put our bowls and dirty plates in the sink and turned around, the next minute they were gone and we found them nicely stacked in the cupboard squeaky clean. Having said that, now that mom and dad aren’t around anymore, funnily enough it doesn’t happen anymore… What a strange coincidence!

I guess the magic button is broken… I should ask mom where it is…

Disney Cruise To Bahamas

:: The Grind

Since my parents are in town I decided to take dad for a nice leisurely walk… up The Grouse Grind! For those of you who don’t know, The Grind is a hiking trail that goes up Grouse Mountain almost vertically and is located about 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver. The trail itself is about 2.9 kilometres and has a vertical elevation of about 853 metres. Once you reach the peak of the mountain you can catch the gondola back down the mountain. For a fit person it takes about 1-2 hours and the course record is 26 minutes and 19 seconds!! I would consider myself quite fit, but this trail is definitely not for the faint of heart… or the unfit… as we soon found out! At about the 220 metre elevation mark dad threw in the towel because he was feeling out of breath. Rather than continue and have to turn back and trek down the mountain we turned back at that point. It was still a good achievement on his part because it translates to about the equivalent of climbing up a 75 storey building.

Two things to consider when planning to do the grind:

1. Newton’s law of physics: What goes up must come down… This is true, but I’m sure he didn’t account for staircases being in the way!

2. Plan on going early in the morning before the heat sets in and also you won’t spend the entire time with your face in someone bum because there won’t be as many people.

Before the summer is up I’ll tackle this beast and I’ll let you know what the view is like from the top… heck… if I’m a glutton for punishment I’ll try and do it every week! But let’s not many any promises…! Maybe I’ll just use the gondola…

Mom & Dad Arrive From Australia

Mom & Dad Arrive From Australia

:: The Countdown Begins…

It’s been exactly 1 year, 7 months and 2 days since I last saw my parents. I can’t believe how quickly that time has pasted by! I’ve always been close to my family so this definitely would be the longest time that we’ve been apart from each other. Even though we try to speak to each other on MSN and Skype as often as we can, I really miss them all. In preparation for their arrival, Tash and I have emptied the fridge and freezer and have stocked up on groceries in preparation for my mom to cook up a storm so that we can have some good old fashioned home cooked meals that we both miss and are starved of… who would’ve thought a fish curry could be so comforting…

Ahhh the things we take for granted.. Time to hide all the Mi Goreng Noodles… T-Minus 72 hours until Parental Unit arrive… Hmm I guess we should start cleaning up the house…
