For the past couple of weeks we’ve had a fair bit of snow dumped on us around the downtown area (roughly 10-15cm). So if it means we’re getting snow down here… up in the local mountains they’re getting heaps! This weekend Aaron and I decided to hit Cypress Mountain for a day of skiing and we couldn’t have had more perfect conditions. The sky was blue, the sun was out beaming and the snow conditions were great! The runs had been groomed and there was still a nice layer of powder on top (not the usual slush that we are used to because of the constant rain). We headed up to Cypress just after 12:30pm when the sun was out at its fullest and skied all day until about 6:30pm…
With little rest in between, we went hardcore and managed to do at least 5 hours of skiing! By the end of it all both of us were struggling to control our speed because our quads and calf muscles were turning to jelly… I prefer skiing Cypress Mountain in comparison to other local mountains, because in amongst the regular runs there are a lot of off-terrain tracks that weave in and out of the trees and have mini jumps if you feel like pushing your limit. There’s also a half pipe where the more adventurous snowboarders were showing off their skills… and no, I’m not where near being able to approach that…
Here’s a short video of Mr T. skiing down one of the blue runs. Pardon the raw footage and lack of editing, it’s hard to ski downhill while looking at an LCD, holding your gloves and poles while trying not to stack it in the process!
Through the day we watched the sun go down and slowly the mountain was cast in a shadow… the result…?
Vancouver downtown at night with Lions Gate Bridge…
Next time I head up there I’m going to bring my DSLR and do some panoramic shots because its such a beautiful view up there… until next time, enjoy the photos in the gallery!
